今年も数名の中学生に英語を教えています。
教科書の改訂がありました。
今どきの教科書ってすごいんですよ。
各ページにQRコードがついていて、
そこを読み取ると、教科書に載っている
単語や会話を聞くことができます。
ちなみに、私の時代はCDでした！
新しい教科書では、イギリス、ロンドン出身の先生が登場します。
また、日本人の学生のほか、
インド出身、中国出身、アメリカ出身、オーストラリア出身
の学生も登場します。私が学生の時の教科書を比べたら、
多様性があっていいなと思ったのですが。。。
実際にダンカと二人で聞いてみたところ
”？？？？？”
何に困惑したかというと、、、
登場人物の先生の両親はスコットランド出身。現在はロンドン在住 ＋ 登場人物の先生はロンドン出身＝
先生の英語がアメリカのアクセント
なぜでしょう？
For the past few years,
I have been teaching English to a few junior high school students.
The textbooks have been renewed this year.
Recent textbooks are so advanced that they include QR code.
So students can listen to the conversations in the books and new words and so on.
In the textbooks, there are students from not only Japan ( of course! )
but also from China, India, Australia and America
and an English teacher is from London, England.
I liked the idea of having characters from different countries
because it would help students understand the different cultures.
The other day, Duncan and I listened to the conversations
in the textbooks and we looked at each other and "??????"
Our confusion is;
The teacher's parents are from Scotland and now they live in London. + The teacher is from London, England.= The teacher speaks with American accent.
